Half a life is a life you didn’t live

The last couple of months have challenged us both in private and business-life. My corona-journey started on March 11th with becoming sick for 2 months. Completely shutting my system down. Which meant that I had to stay horisontal. Could not “save” or navigate the business into new developments. After those two months came a slow recovery period. I took that opportunity to take a few more steps back and observe how the world and ways of doing business and organising people was drastically changing. We’ve pivoted into a digital space faster than we could have imagined and organisations are becoming familiar with new ways of working.

Now I am rested, balanced and sort of re-born with a fresh perspective, yet with the knowledge and experience of the field of visual facilitation. Together with Nikki and the team we’re re-booting our business in order to support the society and people in their way forward. We’ll be delivering more remote digital scribing and step up our game in creative visual services like art-walls for the office or animated videos.

Drawing by Deepak Arora

Incredibly honoured that I was inspiration for Deepak Arora’s drawing here. I posted the picture on instagram the other day with a feeling of hope and humble confidence that this autumn we’ll be able to turn things around and make it even better than before. Because there is no going back. Only forward. And the quote on the drawing is an extract from poet and visual artist Kahlil Gibran.

“If you choose silence, then be silent. When you speak, do so until you’re finished. Half the way will get you no where. Half a life is a life you didn’t live. ”

(The entire poem Half Life is much longer. I’m posting it in the end for the inspired one.)

This picture was taken on the day me and Nikki decided that #MindparkMalmö at Slagthuset will be the host of our new studio. A place we chose because of their track record of building community and nurturing collaboration. There in the back you see the entrance. And we can’t wait to welcome you soon. Moving in day: 21 September, 2020.

See you soon 🙂

Half Life

“Do not love half lovers

Do not entertain half friends

Do not indulge in works of the half talented

Do not live half a life

and do not die a half death

If you choose silence, then be silent

When you speak, do so until you are finished

Do not silence yourself to say something

And do not speak to be silent

If you accept, then express it bluntly

Do not mask it

If you refuse then be clear about it

for an ambiguous refusal is but a weak acceptance

Do not accept half a solution

Do not believe half truths

Do not dream half a dream

Do not fantasize about half hopes

Half a drink will not quench your thirst

Half a meal will not satiate your hunger

Half the way will get you no where

Half an idea will bear you no results

Your other half is not the one you love

It is you in another time yet in the same space

It is you when you are not

Half a life is a life you didn’t live,

A word you have not said

A smile you postponed

A love you have not had

A friendship you did not know

To reach and not arrive

Work and not work

Attend only to be absent

What makes you a stranger to them closest to you

and they strangers to you

The half is a mere moment of inability

but you are able for you are not half a being

You are a whole that exists to live a life

not half a life”

Poem by Kahlil Gibran
